As practising GP’s and Lifestyle Medicine doctors, we’ve experienced first-hand what it’s like to feel utterly perplexed when it comes to knowing where to begin to reboot your health.

If you’ve ever wondered things such as whether certain foods should be eliminated from your diet, how to lower your cholesterol level naturally, how to use lifestyle to optimise your hormones and metabolism, or what types of exercise are best suited to your body, then this scientifically-based course is for you.

Course Curriculum

  • We'll introduce Lifestyle Medicine's importance, delve into research on optimal health and longevity, guide you through self-assessments and goal-setting, explore the science behind behavior and habit formation, provide practical tips for lasting change, offer a delicious meal plan with recipes, and set expectations for the course, including how to access our supportive community and the Q&A sessions to support you on your health journey.

  • In this module we teach you about the importance of food for health, including the research on diet and wellbeing, the pros and cons of different eating patterns, balancing nutrient density and calorie density for optimal health, the benefits of incorporating more plants, fibre, flavour, and nutrients into your diet, and how to improve your relationship with food through understanding hunger, appetite, and mindful eating.

  • We further explore nutrition by illustrating how diet impacts inflammation and its association with disease, examining the benefits of fasting for brain health and cancer, addressing gut health optimization, discussing the balance of macronutrients, decoding food labels to simplify grocery shopping, and integrating an intermediate yoga sequence to promote physical wellness.

  • \We delve into the complexities of fats, exploring the distinctions between good and bad fats, understanding omega 3 and omega 6, cholesterol, and practical tips for choosing healthy fats. Additionally, we focus on micronutrients essential for a plant-based diet, discuss the impact of cooking methods on food, examine the broader environmental implications of our food choices, and emphasise the importance of diversity in diet. You’ll also fin delicious recipes, along with relaxing yoga and meditation practices to enhance overall well-being.

  • We'll explore the importance of quality sleep for overall health and well-being, including its impact on illness and daily functioning, the science behind sleep, benefits for different body systems, and strategies for improving sleep through melatonin, supplements, and practical tips. Additionally, we'll provide breathing, yoga, and meditation exercises to aid relaxation before bedtime, goal-setting for sleep improvement, delicious recipes with nutrient-rich meal plans, and rejuvenating yoga and sleep meditation videos for a blissful night's rest.

  • Stress plays a critical role in health, with around 80% of doctors' visits being stress-related. In this module we offer stress reduction strategies that are crucial for overall wellbeing. We cover the science behind the stress response, the impact of chronic stress on health, symptoms, identification, and practical ways to manage stress, along with providing breathing exercises and addressing the effects of sugar consumption on health.

  • In this module, we explore various methods to calm the nervous system and enhance resilience to stress, including breathing techniques, time spent in nature, meditation, kindness, mindfulness, gratitude practices, flow state, positive thinking, physical touch, hormetic stress, and cold exposure. We also examine how diet and screen time impact stress levels and provide practical tips through a stress-busting workbook and a destress meditation for busy days.

  • This course module explores recommended movement goals, the health benefits of physical activity (which doesn't have to be strenuous), the importance of variety in exercise, its positive effects on various health conditions including gut health, and offers two short online resistance workouts with a personal trainer for strength and mobility improvement. Additionally, it covers strategies for incorporating physical activity into a busy lifestyle, setting movement goals, troubleshooting exercise difficulties, and creating new exercise habits.

  • This week's focus in the course is on the impact of alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes on health, exploring their effects on both mind and body, discussing recommended safe consumption levels, delving into the science of addiction and pleasure, and offering strategies for breaking addictive cycles. Additionally, participants will try out a favourite breathing technique to promote mental calmness and clarity.

  • Topics covered include the significance of connections, kindness, and the detrimental effects of loneliness on both mental and physical health. Participants will also engage in a walking meditation, complete a final health self-assessment and personal inventory, set goals for their health journey, and receive a printable health plan and certificate of completion to commemorate their achievements.

  • Most health issues can be improved with a Lifestyle Medicine approach, as it looks at the whole person, not just the symptoms

    This includes (but is not limited to) conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, digestive issues, autoimmune disease, allergies, asthma, migraines, cancer, hormonal issues, weight problems, skin conditions and mental health.

    People we see generally report feeling lighter, more energised, less bloated and sluggish, more alert and focused, happier and having less aches and pains. They also often find their digestion improves, they sleep better and have less cravings and mood swings.

  • The course is fully online, so you can do it independently. It covers the key pillars of lifestyle medicine (nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, exercise, social connection and reducing substance use).

    Each module has a choice of learning styles (an e-book, a series of short videos or an audio file), to suit individual learning styles.

    There are also three live Q&As with Dr Taisia and Dr Marissa where you can ask questions, share ideas and inspiration and connect with others in the course.

    If you choose the Platinum VIP option, you will also get five small group private coaching sessions with health coach and registered nurse Morgan.

  • Absolutely not! Lifestyle Medicine is about getting away from unproven supplements and unnecessary questionable tests.

    Our aim is to give you the tools and knowledge you need so you no longer have to rely on these.

    We do however give you guides on useful tests you can request via your GP, as well as optimal values for these, to help you get a full picture of your health, and track progress.

  • The course is suitable for any adults wanting to improve their health and gain a deeper understanding of how and what to do to to achieve well-being. It is not designed as individual medical advice and if you take medication or have a health condition we recommend you check with your family doctor to tailor the information to your specific needs. We do offer 1:1 lifestyle medicine consultations NZ wide if you feel you need more input after finishing the course.

  • While the Reboot Course may incorporate elements of various dietary and lifestyle philosophies, its primary focus is on evidence-based practices and individualised approaches to health and wellness. The course emphasises sustainable habits, balanced nutrition, and holistic well-being to support long-term success.
